Film Screening: Cathy At War
As part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale, we are delighted to host the screening of Cathy At War (72
min), produced by the Dotation Catherine Leroy and directed by American documentary filmmaker Jacques Menasche. Completed in 2016
to mark the 50th anniversary of French photographer Catherine Leroy’s arrival in Vietnam, the film draws on more than 400 digitised
photographs, Leroy’s letters to her parents, and interviews with photographers, journalists, and military who knew her.
This initiative is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Ambassade de France en
Australie.
Screening followed by a cocktail reception.
In continuity, the Biennale will also present the book launch of Catherine Leroy: One–Way Ticket to Vietnam 1966–1968, a significant new publication of Leroy’s images and private letters, conceived and edited by Robert Pledge with Dominique Deschavanne, and published in French and English by Atelier EXB / Éditions Xavier Barral, Paris.
