Celia Furt
Exhibition until 15 December
Alliance Française de Melbourne and Capturing present ‘A Rock and My Landstries’ an abstract photography exhibition by Celia Furt. As a French-Australian, award-winning, landscape and wildlife photographer based in Hastings, Celia Furt captures the beauty of undervalued and unknown landscapes such as Western Port Bay, in Victoria. In ‘A Rock and My Landstries’, Celia Furt presents some of the prints that were exhibited in her first solo exhibition, ‘Let’s Get Dreaming’, at Gallery Unbound Northcote, earlier this year.
This exhibition takes you on a visual and gustatory journey, from the aqua waters of the French Basque Country to the aerial, crunchy
coastlines of Western Port Bay in Victoria, From our human eyes’ view, Western Port Bay has unique coastlines with very nutritious muddy
soil, wild mangroves and wide white sand beaches with lots of seaweed. A bird and fish paradise! But from bird’s eye view, the coastlines
look very different. At Shoreham, Crib Point, and Pt Leo, the beaches feel like soft, sweet vanilla, or crunchy, tasty meringue and
millefeuille, or spicy gingerbread.
At Shoreham, Crib Point, and Pt Leo, the beaches feel like soft, sweet vanilla, or crunchy, tasty meringue and millefeuille, or spicy gingerbread. This unique vision and body of work is called ‘Landstries’, a fusion of ‘Landscapes’ and ‘Pastries’. To make the colours and textures stand out, every print from the ‘Landstries’ is mounted on metal.
On display on the 1st floor are the following prints and triptychs: - ‘Vanilla’ (Shoreham) with three photographs: ‘Aphrodite’, ‘Whipped
Vanilla’ and ‘Purity’, which won Commended awards at the 2024 and 2025 Landscape Awards international photography contest, in the Aerial
category. • ‘Gingerbread’ (Pt Leo) with three photographs: ‘A Lacey Sea and A Gingerbread Rock’, ‘A Gingerbread Rock and A Lacey Sea’,
‘Laceys and Gingerbread’. • ‘Meringue’ and ‘Millefeuille’ (Crib Point) On the 4th floor, ‘The Trunk Rock’ is the only terrestrial seascape
of the exhibition that is mounted on canvas, and that was taken in France, in the Basque Country between Hendaye and St Jean de Luz.
Celia Furt is a Melbourne-based landscape and wildlife
award-winning photographer. Her images capture the beauty of the undervalued landscapes, such as Westernport Bay, in Victoria. Her
mission is to put these unknown locations on the map for people to travel without leaving their couch. After owning a theater company in
France (her country of origin) in which she wrote, directed, and produced many plays, Celia’s photographs are influenced by nature’s
continuously changing drama with beaches, sea, trees, birds, mangroves, animals, rocks etc.. acting as heroes, villains, and the
sunlight playing writer, director, and main character. Another aspect of Celia’s visuals is the titles.
