We are seeking a hands-on, creative and highly organised Communications Officer to support
AFM’s visibility, engagement and community connection across digital channels, events and newsletters.
Position Overview
The Communications Officer is responsible for planning, creating and delivering high-quality communications across social media,
website, newsletters, events and organisational marketing campaigns. The role combines content strategy, hands-on creation, community
engagement and performance reporting.
The successful candidate will ensure consistent messaging, brand alignment and timely communication supporting events, classes, exams and
general organisational updates. Reports to the Marketing Manager.
Typical Working Hours: Permanent, 80% - 60.8 hrs / fortnight.
Key Responsibilities
1. Social Media Management (~7-8 days/month)
Content Planning & Production

Develop monthly content calendars in collaboration with internal teams (1 day/month).

Create content including text posts, images, videos, reels and stories (5 days/month; may increase with video content).
- Upload and schedule posts weekly or monthly using social media management tools.
Community Engagement
- Monitor and respond to comments, direct messages and brand mentions.
- Maintain a positive, responsive and professional community presence.
Reporting & Optimisation (1.5 days/month)

Prepare monthly performance reports tracking engagement, reach, growth and audience insights.

Benchmark similar organisations and competitors to identify trends and opportunities.

Stay up to date with platform changes, new features and best practices, adjusting strategy accordingly.
2. Events, Classes & Exams Communication (~5 days/month)
Campaign Coordination

Create and maintain a communications calendar for all events, including milestones, promotional phases and deadlines (1.5
days/month).
Design & Marketing Materials
- Produce promotional materials such as flyers, banners, digital assets, signage and branding elements (3 days/month).
Partnership Support
- Collaborate with partners or sponsors to coordinate cross-promotion efforts (0.5 day/month).
Event Coverage
- Capture photos and videos during events for post-event content.
- Prepare highlight and recap posts (included in social media tasks).
3. Monthly Newsletter Management (~2 days/month)
- Gather content and updates from internal stakeholders.
- Design and format the monthly newsletter and supporting website landing pages.
- Schedule and distribute newsletters via email marketing platforms.
- Track performance metrics including open rates, click-through rates and subscriber growth.
Additional Responsibilities (as required)
- Support general communications and branding initiatives.
- Ensure consistent tone, voice and visual identity across all channels.
- Maintain digital asset libraries and documentation.
- Assist with ad hoc communication projects and campaigns.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Experience in social media management across major platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
- Experience with CRM / EDM tools (Mailchimp, HubSpot, Campaign Monitor or similar).
- Strong copywriting, content creation and visual storytelling skills.
- Ability to design digital materials using tools such as Canva or similar.
- Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting engagement and performance metrics.
- Excellent project coordination and time management skills.
Desirable
- Photography and videography skills.
- Understanding of SEO and web publishing tools (e.g. WordPress, Squarespace).
- Experience in event promotion or community-based communications.
- French language knowledge

Package: $65,000 per annum pro-rata 80% (=52k) + Super + 1 week Ex-gratia over EOY closure
