Delphine Genin: Online Embroidery Course

Have you ever imagined that you could sneak into a French couture house?

Avez-vous déjà imaginé pouvoir vous faufiler dans une maison de couture francaise?

Imagine a place where a mannequin holds an unfinished draped dress that you can alter as you wish, a drawing of a gigantic wedding dress on the desk, a mountain of soft tulle hidden underneath the cutting table waiting to be used, a wall where you can see the inspiration of the next collection... Did we mention the wooden frames featuring handmade embellishments on a stretch silk and blue ostrich feather pompoms ready for the next embroidery?

Based in Melbourne, French designer Delphine Genin is the first couture house to bring the art of embroidery to Australia. And the above is all you need to create the most beautiful embroideries in the world - Broderie d’Art. It starts with the inspiration, a subject that Creative Director, Delphine Genin, wants to question and find a solution to. The design is then passed on to our petites-mains, very rare and skilled artisans whose passion has no limit. The combination of materials they use, which often go up to 25 different kinds, start with some experimental work. The thread, feather, beads, sequins and resin sculptures can be dyed, cut, glued, curved or heated before they take their final shape. Each embroidery sample and test is kept and indexed with their own colour chart and technical criteria as a record of chemical tests until each element is reproduced on the final gown.

DELPHINE GENIN Atelier wants to share their passion with you and has launched their first online embroidery course to teach this beautiful craft in Australia. Receive all of the materials and kit at home, discover what it means when they say “C’est le metier qui rentre” and enjoy 60 minutes of detailed videos filmed with their petite-main.
