Enhance your students' knowledge and awareness of French culture!
Introduce your students to a turning point in French history: the 1789 French Revolution! We offer two workshops displaying two perspectives on this fundamental period: "The political awakening of the people" and "The role played by women."
The political awakening of the people
Topics covered include: the class society at the end of the 18th century, the life of the poor, a revolutionary song, the start of the Revolution and the storming of the Bastille on July 14th 1789, the aftermath of the Revolution.
Learning activities include: reading comprehension exercises, writing short paragraphs, studying a revolutionary song and a movie extract, describing and studying engravings, paintings and caricatures.
The part played by women
Topics covered include: the lives of Marie-Antoinette, Olympe de Gouges and Charlotte Corday, the role played by women in the Revolution, the early stages of feminism.
Learning activities include: reading comprehension exercises, writing biographies and short paragraphs, describing and studying engravings, paintings and caricatures.
