This workshop invites the students to a new reflexion on the French motto through historical and contemporary documents. It also includes a detailed study of the infamous painting "La Liberté guidant le peuple" and reveals its true story. Finally, the students are invited to analyze their own examples of Liberté, égalité, fraternité both in France and Australia.

Topics covered include: symbols of the French Republic; painting "La Liberté guidant le peuple" and its artistic meaning, historical context and message; trailer of the contemporay movie La marche pour l’égalite inspired by true events in France; examples of documents illustrating the concept of Liberté, égalité, fraternité (women rights, equal rights for gay couples, social justice); issues in Australia.

Learning activities include: reading and listening comprehension exercises, writing short paragraphs, watching and studying a short documentary, watching and studying a movie extract, describing and studying authentic documents included lyrics, a historical photography and official texts. Most importantly, the students will be invited to talk and discuss  thanks to the proposed activities.
