On the 16th of November, the Beaujolais Nouveau will be released and fêted as per the annual French tradition of celebrating its arrival on the third Thursday of the month. This year however, there must be something in the terroir because the 2017 Beaujolais Nouveau is absolutely terrifying…

The taste is austere and complex, with fleshy undertones and a bitter finish. The hue is a deeper red than usual… is it the tannins in the Gamay? Or is it foul play? And did someone say full-bodied or dead-bodied?

That’s right, this year the Alliance Française invites you to a Beaujolais Nouveau celebration like none other: murder is afoot and we’re asking you to swill, sniff, and taste your way through the crime scene in a full sensory evaluation of this vinicultural villainy.

The authorities will be called to help you out, but it will be up to you to figure out how the victim met their wine-maker. You’ll be asked to follow clues, and interrogate the suspects: is it the rich and bold or the intense and opulent? The structured and muscular or the supple and sweet? You’ll have to separate the sommeliers from the sommeliars amid stories of fermentation and assassination…

Join us for a night of murderous fun in celebration of the 2017 Beaujolais Nouveau, and help uncover the veritas in the vino.
