SYNOPSIS:

Following his 2017 César-nominated debut, Rosalie Blum (Opening Night AF FFF16), Julien Rappeneau presents an amusing yet moving story of a young boy who will do anything to help his troubled and disillusioned father.
Théo (Maleaume Paquin, AF FFF19
Remi, Nobody’s Boy) is 12 years old and carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. Despite being the shining light of his local soccer club, his sporting ambitions take a back seat to the post-divorce collapse of his father, Laurent (François Damiens, AF FFF15, The Bélier Family; AF FFF17, Just to Be Sure).
When a British talent scout briefly considers Théo for a professional development program, his father offers glimpses of his former, happier self. Scared of seeing his father regress when the selection falls through, Théo makes a difficult decision and decides to hide the truth. A little white lie won't hurt, will it?
With a star-studded supporting cast – including André Dussollier (AF FFF15,
Diplomacy and The Officer’s Ward; AF FFF14, Wrestling Queens) and Ludivine Sagnier (AF FFF19, Remi, Nobody’s Boy; AF FFF12, Beloved) – Of Love and Lies is a bittersweet comedy that illustrates the power of family ties and the lengths we will go to support our loved ones.

SYNOPSIS:

In an unconventional pairing, Cyrano de Bergerac meets a chicken farm in this exciting animal fable from young filmmaker Mélanie Auffret. Idyllic Breton serves as the backdrop for this amusingly sincere film that observes the economic realities of contemporary rural life.
Poultry farmer Raymond (Guillaume de Tonquédec) lives happily with his wife (Léa Drucker) and their three children. While dedicated to producing the best eggs possible, Raymond harbours a passion for the stage, which he shares with his hens – the secret audience for his rousing performances of Edmond Rostand's famous 1897 play,
Cyrano de Bergerac (the central subject of Edmond, also playing at this year’s festival).
After local Breton chicken farms suffer a devastating financial blow, Raymond comes up with a money-making scheme so crazy it just might work: broadcasting his theatrics to audiences via Youtube, co-starring his favourite hen, and star-in-the-making, Roxane.

As Raymond’s unorthodox actions gradually galvanize the community into action, Roxane emerges as a tale about following one’s passions and taking a stand to fight for what you love.

SPREAD YOUR WINGS
(Donne-moi des ailes)

Director: Nicolas Vanier
Country
: France
Cast:
Jean-Paul Rouve, Mélanie Doutey, Louis Vazquez, Fred Aurel, Lilou Fogli
Run time:
113 mins
Date of Release:
09/10/2019
Recommended:
From Yr 6 and up
Genre
: Adventure
Language: in French with English subtitles

SYNOPSIS:

In this seventh feature by Director Nicolas Vanier (AF FFF18, The School of Life; AF FFF11, Wolf), he expounds his love of nature with a tale that brims with hope and courage, underpinned by a strong ecological message. Incredibly, it is also a story inspired by true events, which saw Christian Moullec ‘fly’ with his wild dwarf geese as they migrated during the early 2000s.
This astonishing and unexpected journey begins with Thomas (Louis Vazquez), a surly teenager forced by his mother (Mélanie Doutey, AF FFF15,
The Connection) to spend the holidays with his father Christian (Jean-Paul Rouve, also playing in the Closing Night film AF FFF19, Kiss & Tell; and in the Opening Night film AF FFF18, C’est la vie!), a scientific visionary living in Camargue. Unhappy with this sudden upheaval from his home and into the wilderness, Thomas longs for the usual comforts of video games and Wi-Fi. However, circumstances quickly change when Christian approaches his son with a crazy idea, one which will bring the two closer than ever. In a bid to help an endangered species of geese, Christian wants to reintroduce a family of these birds back into the wild by accompanying them in a flying contraption as they travel north.
As Christian and Thomas embark on this remarkable adventure, one which sweeps over the stunning landscapes of Camargue and Scandinavia,
Spread Your Wings serves as a timely reminder to preserve a world fit for future generations to inherit. With a gentle nod to contemporary figures such as Greta Thunberg, this heart-warming adventure inspires both young and old to stand up and fight for what they believe in.
