“Do Natural Winemakers Really Have More Fun?”
This documentary by Bruno Sauvard follows “punk” natural winemakers in their journey to revolutionise wine by taking out the additives and bringing back the fun! Filmed in the beautiful vineyards of southern France, it looks like a great life, but can anyone do it? Is it really a new wave or just very very retro? And how do natural wines measure up to biodynamic, organic, and sustainable wines?
Associate Professor Jacqueline Dutton lectures in French Studies and wine courses at the University of Melbourne, specialising in the
cultural history of French wine, food and travel.
The real people behind Back to Burgundy (AF FFF2018) – those progressive biodynamic and organic winemakers shaking up the status quo of the French wine industry – get their moment of glory in Wine Calling
This documentary offers ample servings of energy and enthusiasm, as it introduces us to the renegades – the rebels, the critical thinkers
and the ethically minded – who have waged something of a revolution in Catalonia, in the south of France, as part of a rising global
movement in improved taste and sustainability. In doing so, they’ve chosen the hard road but one of immeasurable satisfaction. As one of
the winemakers confesses, “I’m giving birth; that’s what it’s like.”
