1963 / Drama
Running time : 1h45
Director : Jean-Luc Godard
Starring : Brigitte Bardot, Jack Palance, Michel Piccoli, Fritz Lang, Giorgia Moll
4 facts about the film:
- The relationship between the director and actors of the film were very tense on the set as Godard was very aggressive or authoritarian.
- Contempt is the adaptation of the homonymous novel by Alberto Moravia.
- The generic has the particularity to be read and not written. Godard's voice says the name of the actors, the technical team and sponsors.
- When she turned Contempt, Brigitte Bardot was an international star. During filming in Capri, she was harassed by many paparazzi.
Not satisfied with the script for his new movie, producer Jeremy Prokosch hires screenwriter Paul Javal to write a new one. Javal seems oblivious to Prokosch's obvious interest in Javal's pretty wife Camille. As Javal becomes ever more engrossed in writing the screenplay, Camille comes to resent him, thinking her husband is pushing her into the producer's arms for his own benefit. When they finally talk about it he flatly denies having done any such thing but for Camille, their relationship is irreparably damaged.
