Enrolment Process



a)  Enrolment :

Email both forms to competition@afmelbourne.com.au

b)  Permission & Payment :

Due to the on-line nature of the competition all students will require permission from their parents/guardians to participate.

Please use the Permission form provided by the AFM for this purpose, available here Participation Permission Form

Payment must be made via the website or over the phone through the AFM reception.  The Enrolment Order Form (see Step A) can be given to school’s administration/accounts department to assist with the on-line payment process. 

Permission & Payment must be received prior to participation.

c)  Confirmation

An email confirming reception of enrolment details and payment will be sent to the school, along with participation details.

The competition details for YEARS 3-10 are a little different to those for  YEARS 11-12.

The full details for both are listed here, Years 3-10 first, followed by Years 11-12.

Details for the Years 9 - 12 WRITTEN EXAMS are at the end.


Years 3-10 Poetry Recital

d)  Participation

Due to the current COVID-19 situation and the restrictions in place by governing authorities regarding student participation on-line, there will be several options to enable students to participate in 2020.

e)  Assessment & Results

Upon confirmation of enrolment details and payment a unique link to the AFM platform will be sent to you for you to transfer the audio and video submissions.

All submissions must be received by midnight Monday 15th June 2020.

In order to maintain the integrity of the competition and to ensure equity for all participants, the students will be grouped according to the OPTION by which the recital is submitted.

The examiners will assess all participants using the same assessment criteria and select finalists from each group.

Important note: All AFM employees have valid Working with Children Check Cards; have completed the State Government required Training - Protecting children - Mandatory reporting and other obligations and are bound to the AFM Child Safety Policy. Copies of these will be provided to the school upon request.

f)  Finals

All finals will take place in Term 3, dates and locations to be announced.

Finalists will recite their poem in person (COVID-19 restrictions permitting).

g)  Winners

Winners announced on the Alliance française de Melbourne website and an Awards Ceremony to be held at the end of the year.


Years 11 - 12 Oral Exam

d)  Reservation

Teachers book a date on-line for the assessment or by emailing Kellee Lewis: competition@afmelbourne.com.au

e)  Participation

Hopefully by Term 3 the COVID-19 restrictions will be lightened and see students return to campus; if so the BMC will proceed as follows:

Students will be assessed on-line during class time at school.

The teacher will receive an invitation to join a ZOOM meeting hosted by the AFM at the reserved time

f)  Assessments & Results

Assessment Period : Monday 27th July to Friday 14th August

The examiners will assess all participants using the same assessment criteria and select finalists.

Written Exams Years 9-12

The written exams must be conducted under exam conditions supervised by a teacher.

Hopefully by Term 3 the COVID-19 restrictions will be lightened and see students return to campus, if so the BMC will proceed as follows:

Follow the same (A) enrolment, (B) permission & payment and (C) confirmation procedure as above.

The teacher will receive by email  the written exam paper (PDF) and audio track.

Please print the number of exam papers required and have your students sit the exam in one session.

A dictionary (hard copy) is permitted.

Send/Deliver completed written exams to the Alliance francaise de Melbourne in St Kilda.

Deadline for reception of all written exams : 24th July 2020
