This class is perfect for anyone with an interest in French culture and is open to students with an Advanced to Proficient level of French (B1+, B2 and C1 levels). Whether you are a French literature expert, or whether you are discovering Cyrano for the first time - everybody is welcome!

One hundred and twenty years after it was written, Cyrano de Bergerac remains to be one of the most successful, and universally celebrated plays in France’s history. Written entirely in rhyming couplets, this work has become one of the world’s greatest love stories. Whether or not you’ve experienced the play, or watched the film adaption – you are perhaps familiar with the story: Cyrano spends his life hopelessly in love with a woman, but cannot summon the courage to ever admit it… why? Because he has an unconscionably large nose!

These Easter holidays, we are delighted to be offering an Immersion Day that will focus entirely on the work of Cyrano de Bergerac! During the day, students will study some aspects of the play through a variety of French language activities. From reading extracts of the "tirade du nez" (the famous nose tirade), to listening activities, pronunciation practice, and written exercises that focus on writing in verse. Students will have the opportunity to debate aspects of the play and will walk away with an understanding of the work’s context and history as well as a sound knowledge of French theatre vocabulary.

The day will finish off with a screening of the 1990 adaption by Jean-Paul Rappeneau, starring Gerard Depardieu!

When: Thursday 18 April, 10am - 4pm (Film screening at 4.30pm)

Includes complimentary French buffet lunch and free private screening of "Cyrano de Bergerac" (1990, J.P. Rappeneau).
