9-week courses for high school students

This course is for students in their fifth or sixth year of learning French (typically Year 11) and is particularly suited to those taking VCE French Units 1 & 2. With content in line with the new VCE Study Design, this course provides extra practice at an advanced level in order to build students' confidence in French and prepare them for their tests and exams.

This program is designed to be studied over a full school year so that students can progress to the next step, Year 12 (B1) the following year. Students joining this course in Term 1 should have completed Year 10 (A2) or have been assessed prior to enrolling. If registering in Term 2, 3 or 4, please contact us before enrolling to check that this is the recommended learning option for you.

No textbooks are required for this course. All material will be provided by the teacher.

1-week courses for high school students

The end of the year is fast-approaching - you're on the home stretch!

This holiday program is designed for students who are enrolled in VCE1&2. Join us to revise and refresh what you learnt in French in Term 3 and get a head start for Term 4, by revising grammar, expanding vocabulary and allow students to practise speaking and listening in a stimulating environment.

This course is taught by a native speaking French teacher who is experienced and qualified in teaching VCE students. As per the Alliance Française philosophy, classes will be run predominantly in French with an emphasis on communication. Grammar and vocabulary typically studied in VCE1&2 will be revised and strengthened through various activities and exercises, involving conversation and role-play activities.

Please note that course content is at the discretion of the teacher and may vary slightly. All course material provided.


Pace: 2.5 hours a day over 1 week

VCE 3&4 (B1)

6-week course for high school students

This course is for students who have studied French for six years or more (typically Year 12) and is particularly suited to those taking VCE French Units 3 & 4. With content in line with the new VCE Study Design, this course provides extra practice at an advanced level in order to build students' confidence in French and prepare them for their assessments and final exams.

This program is designed to be studied over a full school year. Students joining this course in Term 1 should have completed Year 11 (B1) or have been assessed prior to enrolling. If registering in Term 2, 3 or 4, please contact us before enrolling to check that this is the recommended learning option for you.

Pace: 1.5 hours per week over 6 weeks

VCE 3&4 Semi-Private Exam Preparation

7-week course for high school students

Limited to four students only, these semi-private online tuition sessions focus specifically on providing Year 12 students taking VCE 3&4 French with additional, tailored support in their preparation for oral and written assessments.

Our qualified, native French-speaking teachers – who are experienced in teaching VCE students and up-to-date on the new Study Design introduced in 2020 – will provide guided and personalised help with how to approach their assessments throughout the year, including the Conversation and Discussion sections of the oral exam, and the Reading, Writing and Listening aspects of the written exam.

With a much smaller group size, students will be provided with individual support from the teacher while also having the opportunity to prepare for the assessments together with three other motivated students. Our teachers will be able to offer valuable, tailored advice and assistance to help students go into their assessments and exams with confidence.

No textbooks are required for this course. All material will be provided by the teacher.

VCE 3&4: Get ready for exams!

1-week courses for high school students

This holiday program is specifically for students who are enrolled in VCE3&4. Join us to refresh key elements of VCE French and to boost your preparation for the upcoming oral and written exams.

This course is designed to help students master general conversation in French, and gain confidence and knowledge about the final exams through a combination of listening, speaking and writing activities, as well as vocabulary and grammar revision.

This course is taught by a native speaking French teacher who is experienced and qualified in teaching VCE students. As per the Alliance Française philosophy, classes will be run predominantly in French with an emphasis on communication. grammar and vocabulary typically studied in VCE3&4 will be revised and strengthened through various activities and exercises, involving conversation and role-play activities.

VCE Immersion Day: Focus on Conversation and Discussion

Holiday Intensive

Are you taking VCE 3&4 French this year? Feeling slightly nervous about the oral exam? Then this course is for you!

Immersing you in the French language with our team of qualified native-speaking teachers, this full-day French course will help you prepare for the VCE3&4 oral exam. The day will be packed with activities that focus on each aspect of the oral exam: students will gain an understanding of the exam format, how to approach the Conversation section, and how to prepare for questions that may be asked as part of the Discussion. Our expert teachers will provide plenty of helpful tips and hints, including what not to do during the oral exam! Our teachers are experienced in teaching VCE3&4 and are well placed to help students prepare for the oral exam. 

The Department of Education and Training (DET) offers a 100% subsidy for high school students enrolled in government schools in Victoria. To apply for the subsidy, please follow the instructions available online here.

The AFTV also provides scholarships for high-school students at independent and catholic schools to participate in a 2021 Alliance Française Immersion Day. Year 10 (A2)

9-week courses for high school students

This course is for high-school students in their fourth or fifth year of learning French (typically Year 10). Building on their existing knowledge, students will learn about a range of vocabulary and cultural topics, such as French customs and how to talk about their community.

This program is designed to be studied over a full school year so that students can progress to the next step, Year 11 (B1) the following year. Students joining this course in Term 1 should have completed Year 9 (A2) or have learned French for 2-3 years. If registering in Term 2, 3 or 4, please contact us before enrolling to check that this is the recommended learning option for you.

Year 7 (A1) is for high-school students who are starting to learn French, either at school, or just with us at Alliance Française. With our native-speaking teachers, students will explore the French culture and take their first steps in learning how to communicate in French. Students will learn a range of vocabulary and language structures in French, such as greetings, counting, talking about likes and dislikes, family, hobbies and more!

This program is designed to be studied over a full school year, so that students can progress to the next step, Year 8 (A1) the following year. This course is designed for complete beginners. No prior knowledge of French is required if enrolling in Term 1. If registering in Term 2, 3 or 4, please contact us before enrolling to check that this is the recommended learning option for you.
