VCE 1&2 (B1)

9-week courses for high school students

This course is for students in their fifth or sixth year of learning French (typically Year 11) and is particularly suited to those taking VCE French Units 1 & 2. With content in line with the new VCE Study Design, this course provides extra practice at an advanced level in order to build students' confidence in French and prepare them for their tests and exams.

This program is designed to be studied over a full school year so that students can progress to the next step, Year 12 (B1) the following year. Students joining this course in Term 1 should have completed Year 10 (A2) or have been assessed prior to enrolling. If registering in Term 2, 3 or 4, please contact us before enrolling to check that this is the recommended learning option for you.

No textbooks are required for this course. All material will be provided by the teacher. 


Pace: 1.50 hours per week over 9 weeks

VCE 1&2 (B1)

10-week courses

6-week course for high school students

This course is for students who have studied French for six years or more (typically Year 12) and is particularly suited to those taking VCE French Units 3 & 4. With content in line with the new VCE Study Design, this course provides extra practice at an advanced level in order to build students' confidence in French and prepare them for their assessments and final exams.

This program is designed to be studied over a full school year. Students joining this course in Term 1 should have completed Year 11 (B1) or have been assessed prior to enrolling. If registering in Term 2, 3 or 4, please contact us before enrolling to check that this is the recommended learning option for you.

No textbooks are required for this course. All material will be provided by the teacher.


Pace: 1.5 hours per week over 6 weeks

VCE Immersion Day: Focus on the Written Exam

If you’re completing VCE 3&4 French this year, then this course is for you!

This full day course is your last chance to prepare for the final VCE3&4 written French exam! Our team of qualified native French speaking teachers will help iron out any issues, and will be able to answer any questions you may have in the lead up to the exam. Our teachers will guide you through a variety of activities that will focus on the three aspects of the VCE3&4 written French exam (Reading, Writing & Listening) and its format.

This course aims to consolidate and revise your French, ensuring that each important grammatical concept is understood, and that you go into the exam with confidence. Our teachers will also provide a lot of helpful tips and hints, including what not to do during the exam! Our teachers are experienced in teaching VCE3&4 and will offer you valuable advice to give you the best chance for doing well.

The Department of Education and Training (DET) offers a 100% subsidy for high school students enrolled in government schools in Victoria. To apply for the subsidy, please follow the instructions available online here.

Year 10 (A2)

9-week courses for high school students

This course is for high-school students in their fourth or fifth year of learning French (typically Year 10). Building on their existing knowledge, students will learn about a range of vocabulary and cultural topics, such as French customs and how to talk about their community.

This program is designed to be studied over a full school year so that students can progress to the next step, Year 11 (B1) the following year. Students joining this course in Term 1 should have completed Year 9 (A2) or have learned French for 2-3 years. If registering in Term 2, 3 or 4, please contact us before enrolling to check that this is the recommended learning option for you.

Year 10 Immersion Day: Transition to VCE

If you’re studying Year 10 French at high school this year and planning on starting VCE1&2 French in 2022, then this course is for you! 

Immersing you in the French language with our team of qualified native French-speaking teachers, this full day French course is designed to help you revise and consolidate what you have learnt in Year 10, as well as giving you a sneak-peak into what you can expect in VCE French! The day will be packed with a variety of fun interactive activities to revise students’ knowledge of French grammar and vocabulary, and will familiarise them with the VCE exam format, and the important grammar points that will be introduced in VCE French. This course will help students gain confidence, and give them a head start before starting VCE French!

Year 7 (A1)

10-week courses

Year 7 (A1) is for high-school students who are starting to learn French, either at school, or just with us at Alliance Française. With our native-speaking teachers, students will explore the French culture and take their first steps in learning how to communicate in French. Students will learn a range of vocabulary and language structures in French, such as greetings, counting, talking about likes and dislikes, family, hobbies and more!

This program is designed to be studied over a full school year, so that students can progress to the next step, Year 8 (A1) the following year. This course is designed for complete beginners. No prior knowledge of French is required if enrolling in Term 1. If registering in Term 2, 3 or 4, please contact us before enrolling to check that this is the recommended learning option for you.

This program is designed to be studied over a full school year, so that students can progress to the next step, Year 9 (A2) the following year. Students joining this course in Term 1 should have completed Year 7 (A1) or have learned French for 1-2 years. If registering in Term 2, 3 or 4, please contact us before enrolling to check that this is the recommended learning option for you.
