Mid-year refresher: VCE 1&2

1-week courses for high school students

This holiday program is designed for students who are enrolled in VCE1&2 and who wish to revise content from Term 2 and get a head start for Term 3. Students will revise grammar, expand vocabulary and practise speaking and listening in a stimulating French environment.

This course is taught by a native-speaking French teacher who is experienced and qualified in teaching VCE students. As per the Alliance Française philosophy, classes will be run predominantly in French with an emphasis on communication. Grammar and vocabulary typically studied in VCE1&2 will be revised and strengthened through various activities and exercises, involving conversation and role-play activities. All course material is provided. 


Pace: 2.5 hours a day over 1 week

Mid-year refresher: VCE 3&4

1-week courses for high school students

This holiday program is designed for students who are enrolled in VCE3&4 and who wish to revise content from Term 2 and get a head start for Term 3. This course is designed to help students master general conversation in French, and gain confidence and knowledge about the final exams through a combination of listening, speaking and writing activities, as well as vocabulary and grammar revision.

This course is taught by a native-speaking French teacher who is experienced and qualified in teaching VCE students. As per the Alliance Française philosophy, classes will be run predominantly in French with an emphasis on communication. Grammar and vocabulary typically studied in VCE3&4 will be revised and strengthened through various activities and exercises, involving conversation and role-play activities. No textbooks are required, all material will be provided. 


Pace: 2.5 hours a day over 1 week

VCE 1&2 (B1)

10-week courses

This course is for students in their fifth or sixth year of learning French (typically Year 11) and is particularly suited to those taking VCE French Units 1 & 2. With content in line with the new VCE Study Design, this course provides extra practice at an advanced level in order to build students' confidence in French and prepare them for their tests and exams.

This program is designed to be studied over a full school year so that students can progress to the next step, Year 12 (B1) the following year. Students joining this course in Term 1 should have completed Year 10 (A2) or have been assessed prior to enrolling. If registering in Term 2, 3 or 4, please contact us before enrolling to check that this is the recommended learning option for you.

No textbooks are required for this course. All material will be provided by the teacher.

This course is for students who have studied French for six years or more (typically Year 12) and is particularly suited to those taking VCE French Units 3 & 4. With content in line with the new VCE Study Design, this course provides extra practice at an advanced level in order to build students' confidence in French and prepare them for their assessments and final exams.

This program is designed to be studied over a full school year. Students joining this course in Term 1 should have completed Year 11 (B1) or have been assessed prior to enrolling. If registering in Term 2, 3 or 4, please contact us before enrolling to check that this is the recommended learning option for you.

No textbooks are required for this course. All material will be provided by the teacher.

VCE 3&4 Immersion Day - 20 June 2021

If you are completing VCE 3&4 French this year, then this immersion day is for you! 

Immersing you in the French language with our team of qualified native-speaking teachers, this one-day course will help you prepare for the Discussion part of your oral exam, as well as helping you to revise some of the trickier grammar points covered in Units 3&4 French (e.g. subjunctive, past tenses and more). Our experienced teachers will provide lots of helpful tips and hints, and will be able to help you with any questions you may have. 

The Department of Education and Training (DET) offers a 100% subsidy for high school students enrolled in government schools in Victoria. To apply for the subsidy, please follow the instructions available online here. Applications due by Tuesday 15 June 2021.

The AFTV also provides scholarships for high-school students at independent and catholic schools to participate in a 2021 Alliance Française Immersion Day. VCE 3&4 Semi-Private Exam Preparation

10-week courses

Limited to four students only, these semi-private online tuition sessions focus specifically on providing Year 12 students taking VCE 3&4 French with additional, tailored support in their preparation for oral and written assessments.

Our qualified, native French-speaking teachers – who are experienced in teaching VCE students and up-to-date on the new Study Design introduced in 2020 – will provide guided and personalised help with how to approach their assessments throughout the year, including the Conversation and Discussion sections of the oral exam, and the Reading, Writing and Listening aspects of the written exam.

With a much smaller group size, students will be provided with individual support from the teacher while also having the opportunity to prepare for the assessments together with three other motivated students. Our teachers will be able to offer valuable, tailored advice and assistance to help students go into their assessments and exams with confidence.

No textbooks are required for this course. All material will be provided by the teacher.

This one-week French holiday program is designed for Year 7s or high-school students who are learning French for the first time. During this holiday program, students will revise the basics of French introduced in Term 2, putting them on the right foot to continue with confidence.

As per the Alliance Française philosophy, classes will be conducted predominantly in French with an emphasis on communication. Grammar and vocabulary typically studied in Year 7 will be introduced through various activities and exercises, involving conversation and role-play activities.

No textbook required, all material will be provided by the teacher.

Year 7 (A1) is for high-school students who are starting to learn French, either at school, or just with us at Alliance Française. With our native-speaking teachers, students will explore the French culture and take their first steps in learning how to communicate in French. Students will learn a range of vocabulary and language structures in French, such as greetings, counting, talking about likes and dislikes, family, hobbies and more!

This program is designed to be studied over a full school year, so that students can progress to the next step, Year 8 (A1) the following year. This course is designed for complete beginners. This program is designed to be studied over a full school year, so that students can progress to the next step, Year 9 (A2) the following year. Students joining this course in Term 1 should have completed Year 7 (A1) or have learned French for 1-2 years. Students joining this course in Term 1 should have completed Year 8 (A1) or have learned French for 2-3 years.
