Year 7 (A1) is for High School students who are starting out learning French, either at school, or just with us at the Alliance Française. With our native speaking teachers, students explore French culture, and learn how to converse in French, count, talk about their likes and dislikes, their families and their hobbies and much more!
This program is designed to be taken over a full school year, so students can progress to the next step, Year 8 (A1) the following year.
Why study at the Alliance Française?
Following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, our students develop four core language areas: speaking, listening,
reading and writing. Our teaching methodology uses a structured and levelled curriculum based on the textbook Adomania by Hachette
editions. In this course, students evolve from understanding new words and sentences in French through a variety of media to producing them
in different contexts through structured role plays and educational games. As they become increasingly confident French speakers, students
will also explore francophone culture and people. With an emphasis on authentic communication in class, this task-based approach also helps
students develop an understanding of the grammar and spelling of French through interacting in the language. Ultimately, our goal is not
only to teach students language skills, but to have them interpret the world from a different perspective.
Course prerequisite: No prior knowledge of French required if enrolling in Term 1. This course is designed for complete beginners.
