Objectives

In French, we use the word ‘polémique’ to describe a public controversy that goes beyond a debate. Whereas a debate is a discussion or exchange on a problem that exists and is clearly recognised, a polémique is an issue whose existence is somewhat unclear but that is still highly contentious and sparks a fierce reaction.

In this 5-day course for advanced speakers, students will be invited to debate and discuss polémique issues: freedom of the press, the state of world leadership, the rise of extremism and more. Students will practice their persuasive language in French in order to express their opinions clearly and concisely, and will learn new vocabulary relevant to each discussion. This course is designed for students who have a French level of B2 - C1 and who are not afraid to express their opinion! The focus of this 5-day course is to enhance proficiency in French through speaking.
