Objectives

In this one-day French workshop for advanced speakers, students will practice their creative writing in French, taking inspiration from one of France’s most well-known poets: Apollinaire.

As well as being a playwright, short story writer, novelist and art critique, Guillaume Apollinaire was considered one of the foremost poets of the early 20th century. Since his death, he has become particularly well known for his visual poetry known as ‘calligrammes’, where the words are arranged in such a way as to depict their subject.

During this class, students will study Apollinaire’s calligrammes, and will have the opportunity to create their own! Our qualified native-speaking French teacher will lead students through a series of creative and fun exercises where they will find a topic for their poem, play with literary devices in French, and finally write and design the form of their calligramme! This course will enhance vocabulary and creative written expression in French, and is designed for students with a level of B2 or higher.
