• Government school teachers: the Department of Education and Training (DET) offers a 50% subsidy for French teachers working at government schools in Victoria who are interested in taking this course for professional development. This July, the Alliance Française invites you to join us for a very special French language workshop for A1+ / A2- level students, to discover the delights of pâtisserie française!

Whether it’s a mille-feuille or a madeleine, a crème brulée or the latest creation by Cédric Grolet: French pastry is steeped in history and tradition. Refining their recipes and techniques since the 16th century, pastry chefs in France have become internationally renowned as the masters of everything from the fluffy and light to the rich and creamy, creating what we know today as la pâtisserie française.

This full-day French language workshop for beginners will be divided into two parts. The first part of the day will focus on the language and history: students will learn new vocabulary related to cooking and pastry, and will cover the imperative tense, and the partitive article which are important grammar points commonly found in recipes. Students will also gain an understanding of the history and culture of French pastry making, and of the many regional specialties. After enjoying a complimentary French lunch, students will commence the practical part of the day with a little grocery shopping – in French! Students will then be split into teams, to try their hand at making their very own French pastry under the guidance of our French teacher and pâtisserie expert Ophélie. The day will naturally finish with an afternoon tea where students will get to enjoy their creation!
