HUMAN RIGHTS ART & FILM FESTIVAL
09-23 MAY

Presenting the best films and artwork from around the world, Melbourne’s annual Human Rights Arts & Film Festival (HRAFF) challenges, touches and inspires audiences from all walks of life. As part of its 2013 program, the HRAFF will present two French language films:

ZARAFA, Sun 19 May 3PM, ACMI Cinemas
Inspired by the true story of the first giraffe to arrive in France, Zarafa is a magical 2D animation exploring loyalty, love and freedom. Directed by Rémi Bezançon et Jean-Christophe Lie, Zarafa follows the unbreakable bond between Maki, a young boy on the run from slave traders, with an orphaned giraffe named Zarafa. When Zarafa is kidnapped and shipped to Paris as a gift to the King, Maki must fulfill his promise to protect her. Accompanied by a desert prince named Hassan and a balloonist named Malaterre, Maki travels across deserts, mountains and seas on a quest to free himself (and Zarafa) from the tyranny of slavery.
The Human Rights Arts & Film Festival will present Zarafa in Cineseeds, an event for young people and their parents alike, eager to learn more about human rights issues around the world.
