Since 2010, the Fondation Alliance Française has held a photography competition open to Alliances Françaises from around the world. More than 1,000 amateur artists from 80 countries participated this year. The exhibition, on display at the Alliance Française de Melbourne from 3 to 19 October, will present photographs from the 21 laureates. The theme of the first competition was “20 years old in my country”. For this second competition, the theme “Planète Femmes” (“Women’s Planet”) was chosen as a way to pay tribute to women from the four corners of the globe through the eyes of some incredible artists from very diverse backgrounds. Each photograph tells a story, a part of daily life, a feeling. Each one reflects an exceptional quality, opens a door to the imagination and is an invitation to explore. “We live in a world saturated with images, but they’re not always rewarding. In their own way, the photos presented here allow us to better understand and love the world”, says Candice du Chayla, Communications and Development Manager at the Fondation Alliance Française. The Fondation Alliance Française jury, chaired by agnès b. and made up of other professionals from the world of art and media, named Manual Araya from the Alliance Française de Marco Juarez (Argentina) and Sam Lim from the Alliance Française de Penang (Malaysia) as the competition’s two ex aequo overall winners. The award-winning photographs, first exhibited in Paris, are now on a world tour across the Alliance Française international network.
